Google Scholar
Google Scholar is an excellent free resource. Be sure to search "articles." You can within a date range. Some articles linked to Google Scholar are not free, but some are.
Google Books
Google books has literature that you can read for free online. There are also some books you can buy.

If you need to learn how to do something, this is the site to look at. There are free guides for just about any job!
PLOS
PLOS is a group of open-source journals dedicated to science. You will find peer-reviewed articles in journals labeled Biology, Medicine, Computational Biology, Neglected Tropical Diseases, Genetics, and Pathogens.
Europeana Collections
Europeana Collections is essentially an online museum. "Europeana is an initiative of the European Union, financed by the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility and European Union Member States. The Europeana services, including this website, are operated by a consortium led by the Europeana Foundation under a service contract with the European Commission."
Internet Archive
"Internet Archive is a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and more." Please remember that not everything on this website is scholarly.
Smithsonian Libraries
The Smithsonian Libraries have books in the public domain. This is an excellent resource.
Universal Digital Library
This website has a lot of books that students can read online! There are a lot of books that are unavailable, however.
Project Gutenberg
Project Gutenberg has classic literature to download, for free!

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
DOAJ is a repository for open access (free), peer reviewed journals. The site has: "13,395 Journals...10,418 searchable at Article level... [articles from] 130 Countries...[and] 4,075,417 Articles." This repository has many different subjects to search.
List of Academic Databases and Search Engines (wiki)
Again, please do not cite wiki articles. Also, make sure any article you get from one of these resources is peer-reviewed.
Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE)
A great search engine for articles. Make sure you go to "advanced search" and only allow open access articles.
OpenDOAR
"OpenDOAR is the quality-assured global directory of academic open access repositories. It enables the identification, browsing and search for repositories, based on a range of features, such as location, software or type of material held."
National Library of Medicine
This link goes straight to their "Research Tools" page, which will help anyone interested in medicine.
Legal Information Institute
This is an open access group for people interested in law.

This is a website that allows people to public domain audiobooks.
OpenStax
OpenStax allows users to download free textbooks.
PubMed
PubMed has free citations from major medical journals.
